A beautiful site in a semi-rural farm style estate on the outskirts of Pretoria forms the backdrop to this modern country style dream home for a couple looking to retire in style.
The project brief was to create a house which would fit in with its natural context without loosing any of the effortless luxury which the clients aspired to. This was achieved with an H-shaped layout which incorporates large outdoor entertainment areas and allows all areas of the house to be light filled and connected to the natural surrounds. The use of raw materials and a natural colour pallet further grounds the house in its context. Stylistically the design takes cues from traditional farm style dwellings where organic forms are contrasted against practical rectilinear volumes, reminiscent of agricultural silos and reservoirs in combination with simple farm architecture.
