The design of the residence was challenged by a north facing street entrance, and a narrow street frontage where access, privacy and comfortable living spaces needed to find a compromise to make the most of the wonderful and warm northern light.

The brief needed to satisfy requirements for open plan living, a guest suite, three bedrooms, a study and a sheltered patio that lived out onto a garden and pool area.

The circumstances of orientation and site allowed the concept to evolve into a simple four bedroom modern family home. A hybrid patio adds flexibility in use and the double volume entrance and staircase separates private activities with social ones.

This design intention avoids the dominance of garage doors on the street elevation and allows the home to bask in the sunlight and views that come with it.
